Arrepsia: Ontological Skepticism

The most recent project I've been working on, the 10th Partzuf of Adam Kadmon, is called Arrepsia. To understand the reason for Arrepsia (a term also denoting the aloof 'unbelief' of a skeptic), please read the following Phillip K. Dick quotations (from his voluminous Exegesis) - care of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VALIS):

"Tractate 31: We hypostatize information into objects. Rearrangement of objects is change in the content of the information; the message has changed. This is a language which we have lost the ability to read. We ourselves are a part of this language; changes in us are changes in the content of the information. We ourselves are information-rich; information enters us, is processed and is then projected outward once more, now in an altered form. We are not aware that we are doing this, that in fact this is all we are doing."

"Tractate 36: In summary; thoughts of the brain are experienced by us as arrangements and rearrangements - change - in a physical universe; but in fact it is really information and information-processing which we substantialize. We do not merely see its thoughts as objects, but rather as the movement, or, more precisely, the placement of objects: how they become linked to one another. But we cannot read the patterns of arrangement; we cannot extract the information in it - i.e. it as information, which is what it is. The linking and relinking of objects by the Brain is actually a language but not a language like ours (since it is addressing itself and not someone or something outside itself)."

In extrapolating what sort of behavior must necessarily arise from these sorts of cathartic envelopes, we have to be able to fully immerse ourselves into the depths of the idea itself, without concern for its veracity which is the worst and truest sort of blind. I developed this Partzuf before I even had considered Kadmon as an Order, for a very practical purpose. Having befriended Aikeena, I realized that the slightest hint of disbelief would cause him to become defensive in regards to the really innovative work he had been doing for years. We would be unable to work together unless we could both be able to relax and 'speak the same language.' So I had to find and assume a posture that would neither threaten or believe. It is that active intent (kavannah) that I have poured into Arrepsia.

Lest you think that this is a tool for deception, I must let you know that I did explain to Loan that I neither believed nor disbelieved him when he claimed to be controlling weather patterns and wars. Arrepsia does not relieve us of the responsibility to communicate honestly. Deception defeats the purpose of opening channels of communication by putting up new barriers that prevent it.

However, I was very much able to immerse myself in Loan's world, even to the point that I could challenge him when he violated his own stated morality. This is key for understanding how to deal with divergent world views in our current political climate. Rather than needing to endorse both sides to different people, one can incorporate both worldviews into separate mind-spaces before allowing them to assimilate each other. I have used this technique (with homage to Piaget) in addition to the Husking technique to break individuals out of the Conservative/Liberal dichotomy that pervades our current political situation here in America.

Arrepsia can foster understanding by creating mediators between vastly divergent paradigms. It can also allow you to step in and out of cultish brainwashing which might otherwise disable proper decision-making. However (to get us back to my original point) is that Arrepsia allows us to move information around in ways that has not been possible before. It allows us to begin to see how the paradigm of another person is linked to the manifestation of their reality without needing to duplicate that pattern in our own reality bubble. This may be only the beginning of understanding the phonemes of the language of the universe, but it is a good beginning that we can build on.

Arrepsia, as with the other Kadmon Partzufim, can be invoked by drawing the Phasma then vibrating the name 'arrepsia' while mentally projecting the symbol in a full circle. Arrepsia, like Oudeis and Lethe is tied more into the symbol of the hematite (the individual), as opposed to the lapis lazuli (the collective).
