Hexagonal tiles on the bathroom floor remind me of my Q-bert playing days. Q-bert’s something of a Rook in a Bishop’s world… a downward tilting entropic sort of world where everything devolves into a zero sum equation.

The Floor
I was sitting in the Aveo with N and J. Down the road I thought I saw someone fall over. I stared in that direction for a minute when I realized that people were being shot. Not just once, but many times, morbidly enough. N just stared so I yelled, “Drive!” which seemed to snap him out of it. I started to feel woozy, and J noticed that I had been grazed. I tried to get lower, and kept repeating: “Let the bodies hit the floor.” Oddly enough, that’s kind of a reversal of the original meaning, but it worked anyway. N finally hit the gas and we got out of there. There was carnage all around by that point. My eyes were rolling back into my head as I started to pass out, but J kept waking me up.

The Works…
So, yeah… I’m actually planning to go through with this. I’ve been going to synagogue for the past month or so (since Lily was born) and I’m planning on converting. I’ve been non-aligned for quite awhile, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem. Mostly they don’t want Messianic Jews. No problem there.
Immersion into a new system always gives me a sense of joy. This one will be the deepest cut yet, though. Reform Judaism cuts to the heart of so many of the ideals I’ve come to admire in the past few years. The people have welcomed our family and blessed our child. One woman gave me a set of Shabbat candlestick holders. The focus of their temple? Tikkun Ha’Olam. The candlestick holders say on the bottom: “Show me the lights of Shabbat and I’ll show you the lights of Zion.” Exactly.
The job (FACET Analyst) is going well. Lots of stress lately, with EOM (month-end) stuff going on, and long long reports due on the fifth (which means I only had 4 days to work on them or SBC comes and chops my head off). Number crunching hasn’t been too bad yet though. But, oh, the perks… After breaking records for the amount of money pulled in, The Awesome Boss let us all come in at 10 (instead of 8, except for me and a few others who have time sensitive stuff that has to get done), and then meet at Target instead of the office. She handed out gift-cards (of varying amounts between 50 and 250) and let us shop on company time for an hour. Then we all got a tenner to have lunch on. It was a blast. Oh yeah, and we have casual days all month.
Lily has been sleeping better recently. She only wakes up a couple of times at night. Actually that’s why I’m up right now… to let Kris get some rest.

I really like my jobs. There is still much to do.
